Walter Leonard Memorial Scholarship Fund
In 1993 the FLMI Society of Greater New York established the WALTER LEONARD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND. The goal of the Society was to fund an endowment in a sufficient amount so that the income from the endowment fund would generate an annual scholarship to a student attending The College of Insurance. The Society desired to support financially needy and academically qualified students to achieve their educational goals.
Walter Leonard, FLMI, was a past president and one of the Charter members of our Chapter. He started his career at The Equitable in 1919 where he spent his entire career until he retired in 1970. He was a visionary in that he saw the need for continuous education when he helped form the FLMI Society of Greater New York in 1943. He was passionately interested in education and continued to participate in Society events until his death in November of 1992.
The scholarship fund is an enduring memorial to a man who has given so much to our association and the insurance industry.
